Here we go. Just when we cut ourselves loose from the endless Black Cat/Vulture/Vulturess casting rumors as all of Spider-Man 4 got flushed down the toilet, we start a new phase of speculation about who will direct the Spider-Man reboot. Word on the street is that the #1 choice is Marc Webb even though there are delusional Sony execs hoping David Fincher or James Cameron will somehow sign on.
And now Quiet Earth is hearing that Nimrod Antal, the director of Armored and the upcoming Predators is high on the list. For some reason they say Sam Raimi is the one who wants him, while I was thinking that Raimi has absolutely nothing to do with the franchise at this point. Even the Quiet Earth guys are saying that the only real news to take out of this is that Antal's Predators is getting good buzz, so don't take it too seriously. Clearly the fact that Raimi was an unlikely choice to direct the original franchise means that anyone-- and I mean anyone-- is being considered a viable option. Just wait for the Nancy Meyers rumors to get started.

We've already berated Universal good and hard for their decision to hire Ron Moore to write the script for their prequel for The Thing, but not to direct it, because when you have the guy behind Battlestar Galactica on your movie, shouldn't you give him absolute power? But clearly no one listened to us, and director Matthjis Van Heijningen is still on board to make his directorial debut.
And according to Production Weekly, that's happening soon-- production begins in March and will move to Toronto in June. We still don't know exactly what Moore's take on the story, which originated as a novel and is most famous as the 1982 John Carpenter movie, but the simple tale of some Antarctica researchers terrorized by an alien being definitely has room for reinvention. Is Van Heijningen the guy to do it? Is the production cursed by the very fact of not hiring Moore to direct? We're getting all the closer to finding out.

We learned earlier this week that Peter Jackson and Guillermo del Toro have started casting new characters for The Hobbit, their return to Middle Earth. But what about the existing cast, the tight-knit group we all fell in love with from Lord of the Rings? Jackson has at last confirmed that some of those actors will indeed be back, but maybe not as many as you’d hoped.
Talking to MTV he revealed that only three Lord of the Rings actors will make an appearance in The Hobbit, the first of two planned Lord of the Rings prequels. Of the primary cast, the actual Fellowship, only Gandalf will be back with Ian McKellan reprising the role. The other two returning figures are “Elrond, who was played by Hugo Weaving [in the original films], and there's a possibility of Galadriel, who was played by Cate Blanchett.”
And that puts an end to all the speculation that Jackson might find a way to work in other Fellowship of the Ring characters which, while they might not be in the book version of The Hobbit could easily be worked into the new one. There will be no Legolas cameo nor stunt appearances in which Sean Astin shows up to play Samwise Gamgee’s father. Their journey through Middle Earth, it would appear, is forever over.

French website CanalPlus visited the set of the upcoming "Iron Man" sequel, where they got to walk around the set and interview both director Jon Favreau and actor Robert Downey Jr. In the video, Favreau shows off Tony Stark' new invention, which is a particle accelerator that hasn't been working very well. Check out the video below.
Plot: On one side is Justin Hammer (Sam Rockwell), a fast-talking weapons manufacturer who fancies himself the next Tony Stark; on the other, Vanko (Rourke), who, while incarcerated in a Russian prison, creates his own battle-suit, which shoots devastating, whip-like beams. Hammer and Whiplash join forces to take Downey's character Tony Stark down.
Adding more flesh and blood to the new movie is Stark's mysterious new assistant, Natasha, who has an alter ego of her own, Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson). That introduction inevitably sparks romantic tension between Stark and former assistant Pepper Potts, who's been promoted to CEO of Stark Industries.

Latino Review has dropped some major details on the upcoming new Predator film. Helmed by up-and-coming director, Nimród Antal and based off a script by Robert Rodriguez, the project, titled Predators, will be considered a -- get ready for it -- reboot of the franchise which began with the 1987 film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. However, pay no mind to that tired word "reboot" (which at this point, is like the "secret word" to an episode of Pee-Wee's Playhouse that never happens to end.) Having actually gotten their hands on the script, the folks over at LR seem to be pretty pumped about what they've read. (If the line "we're thrilled to report that it's AWESOME!" is enthusiastic enough.)
First off, this will NOT be some watered-down PG-13 film, filled with generic human characters with whom the Predators will have to share screen time. Nope, this will be a "bloody, violent, hard R script" that will definitely appease purists who long for the days of the great gratuitously violent 80's action flicks. The film will be a follow-up in a similar fashion to James Cameron's Aliens, in the way that "we're on THEIR turf and there's a whole s***load of them!" That's right, this film will take place on the Predator home planet itself. It seems that a favorite pastime for Predators, is to kidnap and collect the toughest, meanest humans on Earth, and take them to their home planet, which is simply one giant game preserve where the Predators hunt prey for sport. (This also leaves options open for cameos from Aliens.)
Bloody-Disgusting is reporting that the ever-charming Iron Man himself, Robert Downey Jr., is in “close talks” to play the vampire Lestat in a “restart” of The Vampire Chronicles, a series of novels by author Anne Rice first written in the ’70s. It (mostly) tells the tale of a French nobleman, Lestat de Lioncourt, who gets turned into a vampire in the 18th century.
Universal Pictures is reportedly behind the new reboot style film franchise of Rice’s novels. The character of Lestat has appeared twice in adaptations of the popular novels: in 1994 with Interview with the Vampire (also the first novel in the series), portrayed by Tom Cruise, and again in 2002 with Queen of the Damned, this time played by Stuart Townsend. There’s no news on which book from the series this new “franchise” would be based on – will it start with Interview and, if successful, work its way in series order? Here’s the list of the books (from Wikipedia):

“I’m delighted to comment. First off, I cannot confirm or deny the rumor. I have not received official word as to the truth of it yet.”
“But I can say without hesitation that I love Robert Downey Jr. and I think he would make a fabulous Vampire Lestat. He is a major actor, a powerhouse of talent and personality, and he evinces an irrepressible and seductive charm. He would bring great energy and skill to the role. I would love to see this happen. I’ve loved Robert Downey Jr. ever since I saw him in Restoration years ago, and I thought he was magical and powerful in Iron Man. — So I hope the rumors are true. – I’ve posted on my Facebook “fan” page saying pretty much the same thing.” also
“Some are saying he is too old to play the part… This is absolutely not true. He is quite youthful. Besides, Lestat is a man when he is made into a vampire. A twenty year old man in the 18th century is the equivalent of an older man today. Age just shouldn’t be an issue here, not with an actor of this scope and charisma. – I’m thrilled at the prospect that this rumor might be true.”
